What I've learned about Jon and Sherry Rivers

I've learned quite a few things about Jon and Sherry Rivers in the last few weeks. Some of them are shocking. Some of them are downright unbelievable.

Did you know that Sherry may not be married to Jon? She may be married to Jim. Or she may be married to Rick. But she may be married to Mike. AND no matter who she's married to, their last name might not be Rivers. In fact, it might be Smith! Or Jones! Oh the scandal!

There's a rumor going around that Jon and Sherry are getting a divorce. No, they're not getting divorced, they are divorced. But not only are they divorced, but they were also fired by Klove due to this. And not only were they fired from Klove because of this divorce, but Klove is also covering up their firing because of the sheer embarrassment.

And besides the divorce and the scandalous cover-up, they are also moving from their home/ranch deep in the heart of Texas (no, Colorado ... No, California ... No, Texas). And where are they moving to? Well, they're moving to Nashville. Why are they moving to Nashville, you may ask? Because, of course, Jon is recording the song(s) that he wrote. And he may have possibly joined a band. No, not joining a band. He's forming a band.

I know it's all so hard to believe, but that's what I've read on the internet in the past couple weeks. And you know the internet is always right. Right? Hello? *crickets chirping in the background*

********************************************

All insight was gleaned by analyzing web searches regarding Jon and Sherry Rivers. All or none of this may be factual. It is, in fact, all for fun and is fully intended to hurt noone. To Jon and Sherry Rivers: If you're reading this, lots of people miss hearing you every morning on Klove. We hope you all are well. I am, of course, only speaking for myself.

You do not know what you are talking about concerning the Rivers. Ignorant people may believe the lies you have printed. Please keep your opinions and judgments to yourself.

To annonymous, that was exactly the point that was being made. This post was a follow-up to a previous blog wondering why Jon and Sherry went off the air. All of these "facts" were found on other pages. These are not "facts" but speculation and rumour, AND when you see them all together, you realize the absurdity of it all. Whatever Jon and Sherry are going through, they need our prayers. THAT was ultimately the point that I believe was being made.

I have a problem of the comments even made in fun, although I understand the statement you’re trying to make. I recently sent and email to K-love out of concern that they were no longer on the show and hoped everything was ok. I had heard no rumors or announcements. As soon as I received the email back telling me that it was because of family issues, my heart just broke! Too many wonderful Christian families have fallen by the way side because of "family issues". I don’t need or want to know any more details and certainly don’t want to hear any horrendous rumors. The fact that K-Love can not be clearer about what is going on, means that it is extremely serious and my heart and prayers go out to them. When someone is in the ministry such as Jon & Sheri are, many lives are affected and I’m sure they ware that weight upon their shoulders heavily. I thank them for the ministry they had and hope that what ever it is can be healed and will show Gods grace.

This is funny... And such good news. I'm just so glad that their useless banter is off k-love. I might actually start listening again. This made my day!

Jennifer. How ignorant you are. Making "OF THIS WORLD" jokes and comments at the expense of Jon and Sherry Rivers. Adding rumors making it worse for them. (Jon and Sherry) Do You really think you are giving Glory and Honor to GOD by being a gossip girl? NO! Shame on you! Instead of your gossip and UNGODLY jokes TRY putting something TRUELY christian and hopeful for Jon and Sherry since you claim you are a child of God? Take that to heart.

I love how all you "Christian" people feel empowered to comment with inuendo, slander and outright salacious conjecture, all in the name of your righteous curiosity. You are nothing but hypocrites who profess yourself to be Christian so you can sleep at night while you tear down people all day, all in the name of your faith. You are way more dangerous than non-believers because you can justify anything and wrap it up in Jesus. If Christ came back tomorrow, he couldn't stop throwing up over what is done in his name.

In the last anonymous comment. please you sound as UGLY as all the other comments previous! May GOD have mercy on ALL of us. ALL OF US.

Me? Ugly? Please-----I'm a late poster and only did so after reading all the salacious pap and twaddle posted by those who call themselves righteous. Christian people offering their totally unqualified opinions that are as lurid as anything you see on TV. What's worse are the people who think this is the truth and then spread it around, and think they are doing the world a favor. Would Jesus approve of this hypocrisy, rumor mongering, and outright slanderous comments? I'm only pointing out how UGLY the comments are of those who have already offered their meaningless opinions. Nobody asked the public for their inconsequential opinion. A prayer for a good outcome would seem more reasonable compared to offering some ignorant theory that has no basis in fact, but is something that a feeble minded individual will salivate over and spread like its the truth. Half of these slugs are hoping for a lurid scenario, yet call themselves Christians and wrap themselves in verse while spreading their ignorance in the matter. -and I'm ugly? Look in the mirror folks, look at who is posting this garbage when they know nothing. Good Christians aren't they?

Yes... Driug abuse! I love it. Maybe the last few posters should work with Jon directly and straighten him out. It sounds like he might welcome a good dose of their judgement.

You can tell who the real christians that post are, they have no sense of humor.

I'm still glad these lovely people are off the air.

O my word...seriously people...this was not, in my humble opinion, written to attack Jon & Sherri. It was more of an example of what was being said everywhere else! To me it was kinda a "wake up" call to get my nosey mind in the right prospective. We can care, pray and miss them but we don't need to speculate. I think that's how this was written. Also by the way on Klove's site they have the REAL reason posted. Come on people quit being so negative toward the writer! : )

I don't know why people feel the need to talk about other people and gossip about one's personal life. If Jon and Sherry have personal things going on in their lives, then we should respect that not form our own opinions about what we "thing" may have happened. Just to set the record straight... heard straight from the horses mouth... Jon has an addiction to pain killers and has been seeking the Lords help to overcome his addiction.

Anonymous said...

Ok...so why didn't the Lord help Jon BEFORE it nearly cost him his marriage and their radio show? It would seem a good person like Jon would have an "in" with God,so that he could stay ahead of the curve on these addictions issues. Please don't offer that the Lord is testing him, I don't believe a beneficent God would screw with people like that to prove a point. Why is it we always pray after the fact, how about a little preventative maintenance here, why doesn't that play into the equation?

Anonymous said...

How sad that you have nothing better to do with your life! Things in this world are difficult enough right now and many people MANY have gone through very difficult times and it just makes me want to vomit when I hear people like you go on with few facts. Glad to hear your info is so reputable. Believe all you read from other vomit and that would explain your ignorance. Go see if you can find your knees, get down and ask God if He would forgive your hurtful gossip, and then go and find a life!

wow harsh, but still funny

I completely got the whole blog. I listened to Jon and Sherry on the morning show and I personally think they would have laughed at this blog, as it was intended. The author brought out some really good points about how the Internet searches can really change things up. Remember the game we used to play called "telephone"? The first person tells the next person something and by the time it gets all the way around the circle, it's completely different? Sure seems to me like the Internet creates a big game of "telephone." As for Christians not having a sense of humor, I disagree.

Grace Like Rain - you do not know what you are talking about concerning the Rivers.

Jon and Sherry Rivers, Rebuilding
07/09/2009 16:19

While I was driving to work this morning, the K-LOVE DJ announced the station was about to release an update on Jon and Sherry Rivers. Back in March, the couple abruptly disappeared from the airwaves, with little more than a “we’ll update you when we can; please pray” message from station management. The pair had been a regular fixture on the station for the past seven years.

Today, the first update was released. In a letter, Jon Rivers shared news of his battle the last few years with an addiction to prescription drugs. The legally-prescribed pain medication was “for seemingly impossible-to-treat headaches.” He admitted responsibility for the situation, and credited his wife for “waking him up to the reality of who he had become.” He also acknowledged receiving help to work through the challenges – with much healing already in place, and certainly more to come.

I admire Jon’s boldness in disclosing the truth behind the couple’s departure. Not only will the truth set us free, but it’s the power of our testimonies that will awaken others to God’s goodness. Mostly, it’s nice to see an end put to all the rumors regarding the couple’s marriage. Unfortunately, the Christian community is no exception when it comes to the temptation to gossip and speculate – and the Internet is no help.

Let’s keep the Rivers family in prayer and see what God does next.

God bless,

Karen

Jon & Sherry Rivers were a gimmick hired by KLOVE to attract listeners - only the KLOVE directors were naive to the Rivers' game. It's obvious they were not mature Christians. Grace Like Rain - you sound more & more like a gossip magazine.

Regardless of what the problem mightve been or could be with Jon & Sherry Rivers, a name like 'Grace like Rain' doesnt fit u at all. Actually this entry sounds more like what the bible tells us to say away from. You have become a shining example of why churches split and people feel unwelcomed into the house of God. You are not being an example for un-believers at all. And you can tell, b/c they are leaving their comments on ur page. This entry should be taken down-b/c if anyone is searching for the Rivers-they find this in the search engine like I did. I would feel awful to know the the Rivers read this. This entry was heartless. This was fuel to someones fire.

I believe Grace like Rain was trying to point out the absurdity of the rumor mills in the media.
But many of you, who claim Christianity, are berating instead of pulling aside and correcting in a loving manner. your intention can't be to see Grace like Rain grow in holiness leading to joy and God's glory... so why?
and if you're going to leave ugly comments, do us the courtesy of signing your name.
the only thing we can celebrate as Christians is that God saves any of us, despite our filth and rebellion. Praise God for his glorious grace.

I just wanted to say that I appreciate all your feedback, both positive and negative. I can take the criticism that is directed at me - after all, I do write a public blog. But I cannot tolerate commenters personally attacking other people. This is the reason for the two deleted comments above.

Hi I dont know you but I was just wondering where you got this info?

I'm late to the party as usual, however, there was an anonymous that stated "where was God before this happened? Why did God allow this to happen? and they didn't feel that God would do this to teach a lesson."

Less than 6 months ago I learned that my husband, a preachers kid was addicted to pornography. We have been married 7 years, my husband has held high positions in churches his entire life, I was stunned, shocked and felt my world was rocked.

After blaming myself, and everyone else, I went into the "why God?" What I quickly learned was that it is NOT God. God sent man to earth, man sinned and Satan had dominion over the earth. Yes, allowing Satan to roam the earth is God, the rest is Satan. God wants our desire to be on Him and only Him. God can turn anything hideous into His glory.

Maybe instead of everyone judging Jon we should sit at home and look at ourselves and see how we can serve the Lord more. How we can come off our man made thrown to truly worship the one TRUE king? How can we as those who proclaim themeselves to be "Christians" encourage those who have stumbled? How can we allow God to work in our own lives to show ourselves that the white lie we told our child is the EXACT same sin as someone who struggles with alcohol, drugs, or pornography? Maybe if we all realize we are on the same playing field the world could be a bit better.

There is indeed much speculation, however I do NOT speculate. I am a biological sister to Gary Smith a/k/a Jon Rivers. I have sympathy for his "prescripion" problem, however I believe if he would interact and/or acknowledge ALL of his children by his two former wives he would be completely restored. He has children who are not even acknowledged by him and his "bride"; also, he has grandchildren he has never met or seen. How sad. Gary Smith was borh in Memphis, Tennesee and has 8 siblings, all of whom are not acknowledged by Gary Smith. I don't personly care but I am sorry his children he left behind have suffered and my heart is sad for Gary Smith/aka/ Jon Rivers for causing such pain to his own children. I especially hurt when his grown daughter, Dawn, who is severely challenged mentally looks every day from a letter from her Daddy and the letter never comes. Their hearts are broken and the pain he has left behind is exceedingly sad. Gary needs to come down from his "high horse", love his children, MEET his precious grandchildren and realize that they are his blood. Good for Lexie but lets not forget the other children!! I have one precious son and NOTHING can and will ever keep me from loving him and interacting in his life. It is so enriching. This is not meant to hurt Garyjon but to point out that prescription rehabilitation will NOT cure the vacuum in his life from total separation from his own blood children, whom he helped to bring into this world. Come on Gary, man up and love your children. Your siblings don't care, your children do and oh how they need you!! Laverne Smith Mogus

wow - I know the pain of an absent father from my veiw point and from a mother's veiw. I feel that anyone with God in thier hearts must feel overwhelmed to fix past mistakes - and broken bonds with your family mainly YOUR children. and YOUR childern should come first before adopting one. I do pray for this entire family- all of it. I miss hearing the "Rivers" on the radio. I was saddend when they left the air, but it was for a reason - I pray that God will work on him in all manners of his life. It must be hard on you as his siter too. Just know that he may need an 'eye opener' from other christians/fans.

Bonehead. Sounds like grounds for a slander suit. They are not only married, they are (still) doing the 'Top 20 Countdown' program together.

This was a random post. I am assuming you are being sarcastic. I know them personally. I know the real story. They are back on air again with American Family Radio. afa.net. Select Live Stream and click Music. They are on 12-2PM MST.
