Every morning, I always enjoy listening to Jon and Sherry Rivers on the radio. For the past week or so, they've had Lisa Williams on the radio in the mornings. On Monday morning, I heard Lisa say something about the Rivers family taking some time off but I didn't catch exactly what she said. This morning, the president of KLove Mike Novak was on with a recorded message that the Rivers are dealing with family issues.
Text of the note from Mike Novak:
You've probably heard by now and noticed that Jon & Sherry aren't on K-LOVE anymore. They are dealing with family issues and while we wish we could say more we simply can’t.
Many of you are wondering “Have Jon and Sherry been fired?”. No, that is simply not true. This life situation developed between Jon and Sherry apart from K-LOVE.
Again, Jon and Sherry are dealing with family issues and while we wish we could say more we simply can’t.
I know all of this sounds vague and I wish that it was clearer but right now it’s not. We are respecting the privacy of people who have been part of our radio family for years and that respect is paramount right now.
When we hear an update from Jon and Sherry we’ll pass it along to you and at that point we will both know more.
In the meantime, we will soon provide an opportunity at KLOVE.com to share your feelings, hopes and prayers for Jon and Sherry.
I’ll keep you posted. Thank you.
I don't know what's going on, but I'm praying for their family. I really enjoyed their morning show and hope they come back to Klove soon.
So I'll pose the question to you ... what happened to Jon and Sherry Rivers? Does anyone have any insight? What's the rumor on the street?

Still praying for them. Has anyone heard ANYTHING? It really made me wonder when they said it was "an issue that developed between Jon and Sherry" and outside of KLove.
Post a comment if you have any more info.
Hi Jennifer.
I wish I knew more about Jon, Sherry and Lexi. I am praying for them, but it sure seems odd that K-Love has removed everything about them. It would seem if it was an illness, they J,S and L, would come forward themselves and ask for our prayers and say they would be back. This seems like either something horrific happened personally (I hate to think something stuck in a closet?)or they couldn't come to a contract agreement? This whole thing seems odd and sudden. I guess 'm wondering if you have the same feelings? In anycase our Lord and Savior will touch them and bring them through this.
Have a great, blessed day!

I think you might be on the right track, Jim. I go back to the note from Novak where he said "This life situation developed between Jon and Sherry ...". To me, that sounded like a relationship issue.
And then he said "When we hear an update from Jon and Sherry ..." and that makes me think that whatever happened has pretty much separated them from KLove .. like they're not really in contact with them right now.
I hope it is not what I have in my mind. Regardless, I'm still praying for their family and hope that they are able to resolve this issue.
I know a lot of people are thinking about and praying for this family.
Has anyone heard anything new about this?
Do you think it could be an affair or a pending divorce? Surely hope it's nothing like that.
I heard jon and sherry were getting a divorce, but don't know if I believe that. that would just be so wrong.
they need prayers more then ever.

It just sounds so secretive...people begin to think the worst...I wish they would say something.
My husband and I have both been a part of ministry organizations for years. We also have been witness to times where someone on staff "suddenly were no longer on staff". In all cases, it was because of needs which the individual(s) needed some time for taking care of personal needs so they can be better to 'minister' again down the road. If an organization decides not to say anything to the general public, it has almost always been because they are trying to give that individual(s) time to get things in their lives back in order so they can eventually go back into the ministry. Yes, it may be to protect the former staff person and not expose them to people who just do not have a clear understanding of all that has gone on behind it. Please, please, take care in not being so quick to judge the individual or the organization for what has taken place. I believe K-Love station has done the proper care in not getting others involved who need not be involved. When did Christ say we NEED to know all the going-ons of every person's life? Give the Rivers' and the station proper time to work through whatever needs to be worked through without all of us getting involved. We have trusted them to be good and faithful in how they conduct themselves - trust that they are doing the right thing now, as well.
I still miss them like crazy. For me, the problem is grieving the loss of these "friends" of mine. They were like family to me and many others. We were invited into their life and the sudden and blunt removal of them from our day is similar to a death. I didn't get to say goodbye. I didn't get "weaned" off them as you would if you were expecting them to leave. It leaves a void. They were an important part of my day. I miss them still and have trouble listening to the station because they aren't there and because something doesn't seem right about how this all happened. Not my business however I am affected because I was a loyal listener.
Has anyone noticed that the Rivers morning show might have been taped the nite before?Notice they never give the time, sound wide awake and more then once the show would replay like a tape malfuction.I think Klove found this dishonest for a christian station.
maybe people got tired of hearing dumplin' and my brideevery morning
I think Jon and Sherry are doing fine together. When I see them in pictures they look sincerely happy. I don't think we should judge them. I mean what if something really bad happened?
Would you want people to know?
It is only our human nature to be so curious and want answers. But as some of the other writers have put it. . . is it really our business to know.
Just continue to pray for them that no matter what it maybe that God will walk by them in every step.
God Bless them.
I find it amazing that we can call ourselves Christians and have websites like "grace like rain" where we "christians" can right what rumors they have heard and which ones we feel we should share with the rest of the world. In the letter Paul wrote to Thessalonia he urged them "to aspire to live quietly, to mind your own affairs and to work with your hands, as he directed, so that you may behave properly". I love Jesus and I would just be curious what comment he might would leave after reading some of the gossip that is being displayed in this web site. I don't think He would inform you of what is going on with jon and sherry and i don't think He would join in on the chatter. Do they need prayer, yes, do they have an obligation to tell everyone their buisness, No. Whatever is going on, right or wrong, that is between them and God.
Hmmm .. I'm just wondering how Mr./Ms. Anonymous found my blog if they were not curious about Jon and Sherry like the rest of us. Oh, wait, I do know how they found my blog .. they typed "Jon and Sherry Rivers divorce" into a popular search engine. Doh! Busted!
Anyway, the Bible says in Matthew 7 - "Do not judge so that you will not be judged." Lets all keep it polite here. Fair enough? Fair enough.
Hope everything is ok with them but honestly I couldn't listen to Klove in the morning because of the constant dumb comments that Sherry made. Everyone I have ever talked to about Klove feels the same way. She just didn't have the wit and radio personality that a morning show spot demands. John was okay.
Whoever that was, that was not nice at all. Hope you're not one calling yourself a christian because that certainly does not seem like it.
May God Bless you..
Why do people on here question one another's Christianity? I mean how can you even pretend to know something like that about someone you have never met and someone you know virtually nothing about? Go read John 8:7 (really, John 8 verses 1-11) and then come back and tell me that again. Please do. I'll be waiting ....
Wow...
I'm awed by one fact - that two radio personalities have made such an impact that people are curious enough to blog about it, research it, and worry about it. I think that's awesome and says a lot for these two special people.
Recently, I learned a hard lesson. I'm a "strong" Christian who strives to be holy and Christ-like and to have His mindset. I've also been in and out of various ministry organizations and a leader in the church. Yet, I was tempted to "cheat" on my husband and frankly to be honest, I did...in my heart. I'm saying this to say - we all have the potential to sin and to make mistakes. And none of us are above reproach or above issues in our lives.
Now do I think that this is what happened with Sherry and Jon? No, I do not nor do I wish that be so - But do I think that family should come first - above ministry? above our careers? YES. And for that reason and that reason alone - it would be enough of a reason for this couple to pull back - to pull away from the limelight. For those of you who have never lived in a fishbowl, let me tell you first hand - it's not fun nor is it a privilege...it's a cross we have to bear if we claim to be Christ followers and especially if we find ourselves called to a ministry to the public.
So let's extend grace. Let's pray for the best rather than speculating on the worst...and hey...if it is the worst? Then let's let them know we love them no matter what...after all - they've helped many of us through rough times and they didn't know us to judge us.
Remember DC Talks song? What if I stumble? The last words of the song says "Is this one for the people? Is this one for the Lord?"
I'm sure no matter what is going on - they have been, they are, they can, and they will be used by God. And for that...they deserve our respect and our prayers.
I just leave you John 8. May God bless you all the days of your lives. If Jesus would not condemn the woman, and we are to be like Jesus, then we should not condemn either.
Passage John 8 :
John 8
1Jesus went unto the mount of Olives.
2And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him; and he sat down, and taught them.
3And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst,
4They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act.
5Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou?
6This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not.
7So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.
8And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground.
9And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.
10When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?
11She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.
I really hate speculating, but does anyone think it could be a mental health issue? Like I said I really hate speculating. I’m sure there is a lot of stress being a radio celebrity. Again speculation, Could they have lost custody of Lexi? She was adopted. Could they have been in breech of contract with their on air challenged 10,000 Facebook followers. I really hate to see them off the air, but with Mike Novak’s response. We will probably hear them again in the morning. I’m praying Jon’s and Sherry’s absents is only temporary until they resolve their family issue.
Hi, Jennifer. I asked K-Love where they are but I got an email back saying they were having family issues and asked for privacy. I was thinking it could be divorce, but it's only a guess. Why would someone like them get a divorce? Please tell me what you think.
Thanks,
Tyler Combs
I live in the KC area. We have a local station here where a very popular man & wife radio DJ team suddenly disappeared from a local Christian station a few years ago. We were told that they had "family issues" and needed some time, the station's website changed overnight, etc. This is so similiar it is eerie.
About 18 months later they came back. Whatever the problems where had been resolved and it was as if they hadn't missed a beat. I learned that God knows and we just need to trust that He has everyone's lives and seasons in His hands. All the questioning and fretting I saw here by devoted followers of these radio celebs seemed silly in retrospect.
Really, the best thing we can do is pray for Jon & Sherry. No matter what happens, we can ask God to change the minds of all the people involved and restore what the enemy has tried to rip-off... if that is what is happening. If not, we can honor God by upholding our brother and sister before Him for His continued care and blessing.
Hope this helps all of you to trust that God knows even when we don't understand.

I'm just so glad they're off the air. Time for some fresh blood. They were so stinking boring anyway. the same thing day after day.
What ever the reason, they're gone... happy day
I found out why they were off air. Jon was on an addition to prescription drugs. Maybe they will come back.
Jon and Sherry have posted a letter to the listeners on the KLOVE web site. As stated above Jon admitted to an addiction to prescription medications that were prescribed to him for headaches. Nothing illegal. This happened to a real person just like it could happen to any of us or any one we love. I hope this puts to rest all the rumors and assumptions. They are truly lovely people and I love the spirit they exude on air. I am still praying for their family and pray they will be back when they get through this. God will bring them through with a great testimony. Read his letter and see what a "lovely bride" Sherry realy is and what a strong marriage is. Be blessed!
There is an update from Jon and Sherry on K-love's website now concerning their absence. Here's a link:

John and Sherri are not getting a Divorce!
John wrote this letter on Klove:

excerpt:
We wanted to start this update by saying thank you. Thank you for the encouraging e-mails, notes and your prayers for us as a family.
We realize that we have not given you much detail about all that has been happening with us, and that our quick exit from the K-LOVE Morning Show left many confused, but that has not stopped our radio family from relentless prayers and intercession and for that we are eternally grateful.
Sherry, Lexi, and I have been on quite a journey the past few months. All of the hardship that has come our way has been due to an addiction that I have had to prescription drugs for the last several years. Yes, this is completely my fault. Sherry, Lexi, or K-LOVE had nothing to do with the events that occurred.
For seemingly impossible to treat headaches I was prescribed powerful pain medications a few years ago and for some time now I have slowly and gradually walked down a dark and deadly road.
This road led me farther away from my family, my friends, my co-workers and even my faith. It led me further away than I ever realized was possible.
But thanks to my brave wife who was willing to wake me up to the reality of who I had become, I was able to get the help I desperately needed. Real help. The kind of help where people tell you the truth about this illness called addiction and force you to look into the mirror and then give you the tools to recover.
But most importantly, the kind of Spiritual help that has filled me with hope again. Rather than allowing my faith to become the very source of accountability and healing and clearing away the wreckage of my past so that God could reach a compartmentalized part of my Soul, I hid what was really happening from almost everyone. I so busied myself with work, our show on K-LOVE and ministering that I did not allow God to minister to me, nor did I really know how to let God heal me until I went in for treatment at a place where the Spiritual road to recovery was taught. Over the past few months, I have begun a journey that is leading me to complete healing. It’s a process that I’m committed to following through, for me and for my family.
Well ... that was the situation with the old Jon Rivers. The new Jon Rivers is committed to being a rigorously honest man. Happy, joyous and free, who confesses to you that I did not have what it took to find healing myself. But the good news is, I know who does. His name is Jesus. And by His wounds we can be healed. The road to recovery is a long and challenging road, but it is well worth it.
