Pistols Firing

Pistols Firing
This weekend, we took a trip up to Stillwater to visit my alma mater  - Oklahoma State University.  We found this awesome topiary cowboy boot over by the duck pond and Noah started doing the pistols firing with his fingers. Maybe he'll be a Cowboy some day? This might be his first picture at his alma mater!

Before we found the campus, we had to find some lunch.  And when you're in Stillwater, you gotta hit up Eskimo Joe's for some burgers and cheese fries.  By the time we got there, Noah was HUNGRY.  We had to wait a few minutes for our table and he was not too impressed.  But we bought T-shirts so maybe that made up for it?

Mike likes to check in on Facebook whenever we eat at a restaurant, but for some reason the Sooner fan was not checking in to Eskimo Joe's.  Hmmmmm.   So I thought I would be clever and check in and tag him in my post.  Except that he outsmarted me and had his Facebook settings such that it didn't show up in his feed.  Oh well, he was there and here's PROOF!

Our food was actually really good. I am not much of a burger eater, but I loved the burger.

When I lived in Stillwater, I remember going to Mexico Joe's much more often than I went to Eskimo Joe's.  My roommate and I used to go eat Mexican food a lot I guess.  I remember getting the chicken nachos appetizer as my meal. (Yeah, yeah I know! I am not that dumb now.)  I'd been talking about going to Stillwater to eat at Mexico Joe's for months.  But we'd just eaten Mexican food the night before.  Bad planning skills right there.

After we ate (and after three trips to the bathroom!), we drove around the campus looking for familiar sites that I might recognize from my time in Stillwater.  The dorm that I lived in was torn down a few years ago so we did not look for that, but we did look for the off campus apartment that I lived in.  We never found it. Maybe my memory is not very good? Or maybe Stillwater has just changed a lot.

We did find the duck pond though.  We walked around and checked it all out.

All the ducks were overly friendly.  I guess a few people feed them on the regular.

Noah was all into the ducks and wanted to get close to them.

I don't know why, but I kept feeling like Noah was way too close to the water.  #overprotective

Seriously, the ducks were not even trying to get away from us.

Finally got Emily to turn around and look at me for a pic.

Noah was enjoying the duck point.  We saw some fish in the shallow water.  They were actually decent sized bass in there.

We also had to check out the gardens.

Love.  LOVE.

Maybe I should try to shape some of my shrubs into a cowboy hat, too? YES PLEASE!
More about our day trip to Stillwater later.

Gone Fishin' (Part 2)

Gone Fishin' (Part 2)
While we were at Wal-Mart getting the new tank for Emily's fish, we also picked up a fish and a tank for Noah's room. We picked out a small round tank for Noah.  It has an under gravel filter and a very cool bubble tube.  The LED lights also change colors.

Meet Noah's betta fish "Blueberry" and his apple snail "Muffin."

Muffin is the little orange looking fellow at the top left of the tank.  And Blueberry is at the bottom left of the tank in front of the white rock.

Noah has been enjoying his new tank.  He told me that Blueberry needs an iPad in his tank.  I don't think so!!!

Gone Fishin' (Part 1)

Gone Fishin' (Part 1)
I mentioned that Santa brought Emily a fish and an Aquafarm for it to live in.  Well, it turned out to be a terrible fish tank for us.  One of these days, I will explain all the problems with the little Aquafarm.  But for now, I want to introduce our new pets.

Meet "Red", he is a red betta fish.  A Chinese Fighting Fish.

She also has an apple snail named "Apple".  I couldn't get a good picture of him tonight, but he's definitely in there.

We got a new tank for Red and Apple today that has a real filter and a LED light that changes colors.

Emily picked out all the decorations in the tank.  I think Red and Apple's new home looks wonderful.

Back At It

Back At It
Hey, Hey, it's been a long time since I updated my blog.  Over a year?!? There is no way this is possible!

I got a new camera for Christmas so I'm thinking MAYBE, just maybe, I can start updating my blog again.  Wouldn't that make everyone happy?  Maybe I should change the name of the blog?  What do you think?  Maybe something related to Smith Fam?

We had a good Christmas this year. Santa brought Emily a betta fish and an Aquafarm for it to live in.  And Santa brought Noah a guitar.  Noah was sick on Christmas, but he still loved his guitar and immediately pulled it into his lap and started strumming away.

The day after Christmas, we went down to Arkansas to visit the Hughes family.  Emily and Noah stayed with Grandmother and Granddaddy a few extra days.  I will go back down to pick them up later this week.  We are watching the weather to see which days are going to be okay for travel.

Halloween 2013

Halloween 2013
I hope you all had a great Halloween!

We went over to Nanny and Poppa's for supper and trick-or treating this year.  Emily was a baker and Noah was Thomas the Tank Engine.

They both picked out their own outfits.  Emily had to get everything just like the picture, including the tights and the black shoes.  And Noah picked out his costume and his pail to match.  I was surprised that he wore the costume and the hat, but he did.

Here are pictures of Emily and Noah in costume.

3rd Grade Math Carnival

3rd Grade Math Carnival
One night last week, Emily's school hosted a 3rd grade math carnival.  We all went and played lots of games.  I am going to let Emily tell you all about it.  She is going to be my guest blogger for today!

~*~

Hi everybody, it's Emily.  On Wednesday I went to a Math Carnival! I played lots of games. This is me when we were getting out of the car!

I will tell you the easiest game.  It's called the cupcake walk. It is when she turns the music on and you walk in a circle of chairs. On the back of the chair is a picture of a cupcake and a number. When the music stops she calls a number in the tens place or other places and if you have a number you get a cupcake!!!! I got a chocolate cupcake with pink frosting with brown sprinkles.

The hardest one is called straight shooters. It is where you have three marbles and throw it on the number chart and you have to add up all three numbers.  Then you have to multiply that number by three!  My three marbles landed on 27 every time. That is hard!

There was also a Estimating Station.  You had to go around the table and guess how many items were in each jar. They had a jar of mini marshmallows, one with M&M's, cheese balls, gumballs, Twizzlers and other things.  You write your guess on a piece of paper and they told us the winners the next day. I won the jar of cheese balls!!!!!!!!!! I guessed 500 cheese balls and there were really 530.

This is me with my cheese balls.  Want some?

I had so much fun at the Math Carnival.  I saw a lot of my friends and the games were fun. I love my new school!

Thanks so much to Emily for guest blogging today.  She also got her progress report on Friday and she has all A's!  We are so proud of her and love her so much!

Well it's a rainy Saturday at our house.  It's hard to want to get up and do anything when it's rainy and chilly outside.

Have a great weekend!

Special Persons Day

Special Persons Day
Last week, Emily's school had a "Special Persons Day" celebration one evening.  Grandmother and Nanny went with us to the school.  We didn't see Emily's teacher, but we visited her classroom and got to check everything out.  Then they had cookies for everyone.

Decorating for Fall

Decorating for Fall
Mom visited the other week and we did some shopping for fall. I had been looking for a clock to go over my mantle for a while and we found that. And we got a few other fall things to go on the mantle.

Here's how it turned out.

Back to School

Back to School
Friday was Emily's first day back to school.  Since we moved to a new neighborhood, Emily is going to a new school this year.

Her new school starts at 9:15am so we had a bit of time before we left the house on Friday morning. I think Emily was excited about school because she kept asking me if it was time to go yet.

She wanted to go outside in front of the front door and take some pictures.  And she wanted to wear her backpack.  So Noah had to go get his backpack too.

Here's a picture of both of them.  They are so cute!

Emily had a good first day of school.  She made two or three friends and she said her teacher is funny.

I hope she has a great year in 3rd grade!

I'm trying to catch up on sold older blog posts. I'm not sure if this is the best way to do it or not, but I posted a couple things under the date the happened instead of the date I posted it.

Happy 3rd Birthday Noah!

Happy 3rd Birthday Noah!
This past weekend, we celebrated Noah's 3rd birthday with family.

Noah took a nap before his party and when he woke up, the house was transformed with Thomas the Train everywhere.  We had a Thomas the Train pinata and balloons and a cake with Thomas the Train on top.

Everything turned out really cute and I think Noah had a great time with everyone at his party.

We had a pull-string pinata.  When we filled it up with candy, it was very back-heavy and hung crooked.  And when the magic string was pulled, the trap door opened but all the candy didn't come out. So I gave it a couple good shakes and the candy went everywhere.  Noah was very selective with the candy items he picked and only ended up with 5 or 6 things.  But Emily was much less cautious and ended up with a bag full of candy.  Good thing we share around here.

We took Noah to the bakery a few weeks before his party and let him pick out the cake design.  I think Mike was leaning toward a Batman cake, but Thomas the Train won out.  Noah was pretty disappointed that we couldn't take the cake home immediately when we ordered it.  He asked almost every day to go back to the "bakery".  I wish I had that on video.  He said bakery so cute.

Noah enjoyed the balloons at the party too.  He wanted to take them all outside and let them fly away.  We let a lot of them fly away.

Today was Noah's actual birthday. It worked out that I was able to work from home with him and Emily today.

We had a picnic breakfast outside.  They even got to drink fruit punch for breakfast. :)

We played outside with the Play-Doh and even pulled the trampoline into the shade.  I was working from home so I just took my laptop out on the porch and worked while they played.

Then it got hot and we came inside and played with the new toys and the Thomas the Train tent.

Then tonight Noah wanted to go to Taco Bueno for supper and then we went to Braums for an ice cream cone.  Noah wanted strawberry ice cream.  Easy enough.

It's been a fun couple of days.  We did finally move the big Thomas the Train tent into the playroom tonight.  Kinda nice to have our living room back.

Happy 8th Birthday, Emily!

Happy 8th Birthday, Emily!
We recently celebrated Emily's 8th birthday at our new house.   I can't believe she's already 8 years old.  Doesn't seem possible.

She's so beautiful!!!!

Emily wanted her name on her cake with M&M's so I put her name on her cake with M&M's.  She picked the colors. I laid out the M&M's on waxed paper then transferred them to the cake.  I think it turned out super cute.

Making a wish!

Noah was a fan of the cake and the red punch.

We had ice cream sundaes with all the toppings.  I wish I had gotten a picture of all the different toppings we had - chocolate syrup, caramel sauce, marshmallow creme, crushed butterfinger, Oreos, candies, gummy worms, nuts, whipped cream, cherries and more.  I can't even remember all of the toppings.  We would buy a few and then think of something else we wanted and go pick that up too.

We love you, Emily!

Did I mention we moved?

Did I mention we moved?
Back in April, we moved into a new house.  I have not gotten it all decorated yet, but here are some pictures.  We'll call these the "before" pictures.

Oh, she is full of tricks.

When you go to a house, you gotta ring the doorbell.

Hard to get a good pic of the two of them.

Bake Sale Goodies

Bake Sale Goodies
Mike's work is having a bake sale this week to benefit one of his co-workers that is going through a long and difficult illness.  We have been fixing a few little treats for the bake sale.

Chocolate Covered Oreo Pops

Just shove a lollipop stick into the middle of Double Stuff (this is key!) Oreos, dip in melted chocolate, and decorate as desired.

I got all my lollipop sticks and little baggies at Hobby Lobby.  The sprinkles and colored sugars came from Hobby Lobby as well.  I found the little sugar hearts at Wal-mart.  Disappointingly, the baggies did not come with twist ties.  But surprisingly, I found a bunch of twist ties in a drawer in my kitchen. I ran out of those and had to tie ribbons on some of the pops though.

The hardest part of this project was getting the sticks into the middle of the Oreos without breaking them.  I broke the first 7 or 8 cookies.  I tried microwaving them to make the cream softer.  Didn't help.

I finally Googled this problem and someone suggested to open up each cookie, dig out a little channel in the cream filling for the stick and then use some white chocolate as a "glue" to hold the stick between the two cookies.  This worked! I still broke a few more cookies getting them apart, but it was not too bad.

Chocolate Covered Marshmallow Hearts

I just happened to run across these marshmallow hearts at the grocery store this weekend.  They ended up being a lot easier than the Oreos.  It was super easy to put the stick into the marshmallows and super easy to dip.

Emily helped me decorate the marshmallow hearts.  I think they turned out super cute.  I bet they will sell well at the bake sale.

Peanut Butter Cookie Cups

These peanut butter cookie cups are sort of my go-to baked item.  They are very easy to make and are a little different than a normal cookie.  So far I've made 8 dozen of these for the bake sale.

Hopefully I'll have time tomorrow night to make another thing or two.  We'll have to wait and see.
