Hamburger Cookies

Hamburger Cookies
Updated: Emily and I were looking at my blog and she said the picture of her artwork was a TREE! I see it now .. a tree with fall leaves. Beautiful!

Last night, I made some cookies for my sweet friend, Karen. She asked for hamburger cookies for her grandkids, but I also made her some no-bake cookies because I know she loves them! She was very excited! She's a blog reader so I told her she was going to have to come on here and post a comment and let us know if they are good or not. But let me just say .. they ARE good. I hope her grandkids like them too.

And, of course, I have to show off Emily's latest art projects from school. This fall squirrel with leaf tail.

And this fall ... artwork.

Tomorrow, Emily and I are going to a tea party for her cousin Sarah's birthday. She's going to be six years old I think. She got her an awesome Barbie guitar. I kinda worry when I buy a child a toy that makes noise or with lots of small annoying pieces. I think a lot of parents remember what you bought for their child and get your child something just as annoying or moreso, if possible. I will admit that the sound of this guitar has the potential to be very annoying, but I think she will like it.

AWANA Have Fun ... "I just wanna .. I just wanna"

no image
Okay okay, I know that title was pretty lame. I was trying to throw in a Cyndi Lauper song reference, but I don't think it worked.

I just wanted to share a story from AWANA Cubbies last night. It was Cubbie Bear's birthday and so we had a party complete with balloons, party hats, and birthday cupcakes (mini muffins.) We only had three kids in our class again, but that's okay.

One of the little girls in our class is so cute ... any time we ask them what the verse is for the week, this little girl says "God is Love!" That was our verse the very first week of club, but she pretty much answers any question about the story or the verse with the same answer. "God is Love!"

Yes, He is!

Turkey Feathers

Turkey Feathers
This is going to be a short post tonight because I am watching Dancing With the Stars tonight. I'm rooting for Brooke Burke. She's a really good dancer and just so fun to watch.

I did want to share this turkey that Emily made this week in Sunday School. She was very insistent about TWO yellow feathers. Very cute. She's getting better with her coloring too.

Tomorrow I'll be attending a conference for work and then Emily and I have Cubbies. Hope the weather is better tomorrow than it was last Wednesday.

Not Me! Monday

Not Me! Monday

  • I did not walk in to work using my child's Dora The Explorer umbrella this morning because I could not find mine and it was raining cats and dogs outside. I would be waaaaaay too embarrassed to be seen at work with a bright pink umbrella like that.

  • My child did not put stickers on her dad's jacket and then let him wear it to work. Of course, I have told her 100 times that she can ONLY put stickers on her own paper.

  • The waitress at our favorite Chinese restaurant did NOT tell us what we were going to order for our meals and drinks before we even said anything. We have obviously been going there too much lately and we obviously won't be going back any time soon. Check please!

  • Deep down, I do not think that all Ice Cream Truck drivers are child molesters or serial killers. I do not cringe and run into the house whenever I see them or hear their creepy music. (I apologize if this offends anyone. If there are any nice and decent ice cream truck drivers out there, I am SURE I would like to know about it.) I was going to add this to the 15 Random Things About Me, but I decided against it.

Tag - I'm it!

Tag - I'm it!

My friend Lisa has tagged me. I'm supposed to post 15 things that you may or may not know about me so that everyone can get to know me a little better. Wow, that's going to be a hard list to make. Lets get started ...

1 - My birthday is a few days before Christmas.

2 - I am a middle child. (Hi Daniel and Heather!)

3 - I showed livestock (cows and sheep) when I was a kid. I still have all the trophies and ribbons that I won.

4 - I played basketball for a couple years in Jr. High. I only got to play in one game and only for like two seconds. And when the coach put me in, I totally tried to get out of it because I hadn't really been paying attention and didn't know what I was supposed to do.

5 - I got kicked out of the marching band in high school. I played the french horn.

6 - I made a 30 on the ACT test.

7 - I attended college at Oklahoma State University. (Hi Pistol Pete!)

8 - I majored in Agricultural Engineering in college.

9 - I quickly changed my major to MIS. ;)

10 - I always wanted to be an elementary school teacher.

11 - I work as an IT analyst.

12 - I was married almost 7 years ago ... a very cold and snowy day in March.

13 - I love PINK cotton candy. (Isn't that right, Mike?)

14 - My favorite pizza is canadian bacon from Pizza Hut.

15 - I collect elephant figurines.

Okay so that wasn't too hard to write. Now I'm supposed to tag other bloggers to list 15 things about yourself. If you're reading this, consider yourself tagged! If you don't have a blog, feel free to list your 15 things in the comments on this post.

Bears, Yellow Flowers and the Alphabet

Bears, Yellow Flowers and the Alphabet
Bears

This past week at preschool, Emily has been learning about bears. This is the brown bear picture that she painted.

And this is the coffee bear that she made. Yeah, I don't know what a coffee bear is either. (Except that he has coffee grounds glued to his belly.) I was just tickled that kids these days still make crafts with gold brads!

Yellow Flowers

This morning when we got home from gymnastics, Emily picked me this yellow flower that was growing in the yard. Isn't it beautiful??

The Alphabet

And then before she took her nap this afternoon, she wrote her name for me. Do ya see it??? I was so impressed!

Now we're playing with Play-Doh while Dad is watching the OU game. What a fun afternoon.

Not Me! Monday (Early Edition)

Not Me! Monday (Early Edition)

  • I did not "trick" my child into an early bedtime tonight since the time changed and it was already dark outside. She was not in bed by 6:30pm!

  • I did not "treat" myself to some extra blog time since she was asleep earlier than usual. And although I finished my blogging early, I did not choose to skip all the laundry that needed to be folded and spend some quality time with my husband instead. *wink*

  • On Friday night, I did not cut the trip to the fall carnival way short because of a fussy child. Halloween only comes once a year and we MUST enjoy it to the fullest extent possible. And plus, if we leave early, we don't get as much candy!!!

  • We did not drive all the way to the grocery store, but fail to go inside because the parking lot was packed! Who cares if we don't have anything for breakfast or lunches tomorrow? Is it really worth going into a packed store? I think not!

Happy Halloween!!!

Happy Halloween!!!
Last night after work, we went over to Mike's parents house for Pizza. After we ate, the kids got into their costumes. Emily was Ariel. Mason was Captain Hook, and Madison was a Cheerleader. As the night grew on, Emily got more and more unhappy. She didn't like the Trick-or-Treaters that came to Papa's door looking for candy. (And I couldn't believe the kids don't even say "Thank You" any more!)
We sat around checking out what she'd made at school for a while. Her class also went to the Pumpkin Patch today and each picked out a pumpkin. Then we went to the church for the fall carnival. Emily was really not interested in playing any of the games.
We saw Belle (Sarah) there too ...But this was the predominant look of the night ....

Emily didn't like any of the people that were dressed up. She fussed quite a bit while we were at the church so she and I went home pretty early. She fell asleep in the car in her princess dress. Awww ... a sweet ending to a sugar-sweet night.

A note from Emily to Grandmother and Grandaddy

A note from Emily to Grandmother and Grandaddy
Hi Grandmother and Grandaddy!!!
Thank you sooooooooooo much for the Halloween present. I got it in the mail last night. I couldn't wait to open the box.

see what's inside ....
I looooved the stickers and of course the pumpkin flashlight!!!

And you knew I would love this book. Reading is one of my favorite things! When I come to your house for Thanksgiving, I'll bring it so that I can read it to you. You're going to looooove opening all the flaps and seeing what's inside.
I opened my socks immediately. Did you know that they light up?!?

And I got one of my favorite things! Fruit snacks!!!! I couldn't believe how many fruit snacks were in the box! I wanted to eat them all right then!

But Mom didn't let me. She did read this sweet card to me though ...

And I love you too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Happy Halloween from our family to yours. Pictures tomorrow.

Patches and Bags

Patches and Bags
Well I managed to sew on Emily's two Cubbies patches this weekend. I thought I did a pretty good job considering my lack of experience. All I need to do is go back and iron them down. The Jumper patch on the right side of the picture (left side of the vest) is a little too high, but I can live with it I think. That's all well and good ... except that Emily got an Ern E. Elephant patch at Cubbies last night. Just when I get caught up, I get one more thing to do!

I also put together some goody bags for Emily's preschool class party. They were filled with a little notebook, a Crayola Pip Squeaks marker, a couple sheets of stickers, and some candy. I think they turned out really cute. The biggest problem is that I am inept at tying any kind of bows. These were actually awful looking up close ... and when I have to tie a bow on the back of Emily's dress, it always turns out awful as well. My mom and my mother-in-law have both tried to show me, but I can. not. do. it. Someone, please take a moment and enlighten me. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. (Sorry about the rambling ... I'm very far away from my original topic at this point!)

Emily's preschool class party was today. The picture below is all the goodies she got from the other kids in her class. Wow! We haven't even opened any of the bags yet, but it looks like a lot of stuff. And we haven't even been Trick-or-Treating yet!

Tomorrow night, we'll go Trick-or-Treating at the church's fall carnival. I hope to get some good pictures, but Emily is often pretty shy around a bunch of people. She might be clingy and frowny all night. We'll see what happens I guess. Wish you all could be there!

Spit-spot

Spit-spot
This evening when Mike and Emily got home, they started watching The Wizard of Oz again. By the time Emily went to bed, she had watched the whole movie again!!! This picture is from yesterday.

Check out that face! (Yes, she was eating popcorn and fruit snacks.)

Reading in Bed

Several people left comments about their kids reading in bed at night. I don't remember reading in bed when I was a young girl (once upon a time.) But I do remember getting all my babies and stuffed animals and pretending that we were homeless on the street on a very cold night. I would only have maybe a pillowcase or a small blanket to cover myself and all of "my babies" up with to keep them warm. (Because, you know, that was all we had when we were homeless.) We would snuggle close and before I knew it, we'd all be asleep.

Spit-Spot

Emily had me laughing at the dinner table tonight. She kept telling me "Spit-spot" in a lovely British accent. We were both giggling uncontrollably. Do you know what movie "Spit-spot" is from? Post a comment if you know. First one with the correct answer wins!

Not Me! Monday and the Night-time Librarian

Not Me! Monday and the Night-time Librarian

  • I did not read an entire James Patterson book in one day. You know, I have way too much to do around the house to read over 300 pages in a day. And it was not a great book that I thoroughly did not enjoy.
  • We did not spend the weekend driving around town looking for The Wizard of Oz on DVD. Of course, we did not find it at a store in the mall 45 minutes away. And while we were up there, we did not stop by a great Italian restaurant and eat waaaay too much pasta and bread and mozzarella sticks.

  • And we, of course, did not watch the Wizard of Oz after Emily's nap this afternoon. She wasn't so sure about the Wicked Witch and hopped into her Daddy's lap a couple times, but it was all good by the end of the movie.

  • I did not win my first Blogger award this week from Lisa. I'm totally honored that she loves my blog and I loves hers too.

The Night-Time Librarian

After we put Emily to bed at night, she's been getting out of her bed and getting some books to "read" in bed. She drags her Cinderella light over into the bed with her and pages through all the books one at a time. Sometimes we can hear her in there reading to her dolls. So cute!
